Remembering Allan Jensen
It is with great sadness that we share the news that over this holiday season the Hat Art Club lost a friend and champion of the arts in our community.
Allan Jensen was an artist, curator, educator, volunteer and booster for the visual arts in Southeastern Alberta. He served on the boards for many cultural institutions in our region, notably serving for 14 years on the Hat Art Club’s Board of Directors, two of those terms as club President.
He received numerous awards for the work he did in the community promoting the arts and local history, including a Medicine Hat Civic Recognition Award in 1984 and a Governor General’s Commemorative Medal for his “significant contribution to Canada, community and fellow Canadians.”

Charlie Wilson-Borella, our club’s Director of Community Engagement, was fortunate to reconnect with Allan prior to his passing as part of a larger legacy project. We look forward to sharing Allan’s and other valued honorary members’ perspectives on the Hat Art Club’s impact in our community over the course of this year.
Allan spent so much of his life dedicated to preserving the history of the people and places in Southern Alberta, we are inspired to follow in his footsteps. We look forward to sharing these with our members and the public over the course of our 75th anniversary year.
As are the wishes of his family, if you wish to make a contribution to the Hat Art Club in memory of Allan Jensen, please visit our Donation page.
